LAKHIMPUR: Dr. Joy Prakash Das, the Congress candidate of No. 111 Lakhimpur Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC), had to be stranded for a long time on the bank of the River Subansiri on Thursday night while returning to North Lakhimpur after taking part in a series of election campaign programmes organized at Pub Telahi Gaon Panchayat.

The Congress party candidate had to face with the odd situation due to the non-return of the ferry boat from that bank of the river to the other. In this regard, Dr. Joy Prakash Das alleged that the ferry boat did not return to the other bank of the river as part of a conspiracy hatched against him by ruling party supporters. He added that the boatman was taken aside by a group of people due to which he could not cross the river.

Following the development, the Lakhimpur district unit of National Students' Union of India (NSUI) filed a written complaint to the Deputy Commissioner of the district to recover him. Moreover, the Congress activists and the office bearers of Lakhimpur District Congress Committee, including the Mahila Congress, Yuva Congress, NSUI, Sewa Dal, staged massive protest in the Rajiv Bhavan premises in North Lakhimpur town opposing the alleged conspiracy against the party candidate. However, the Congress candidate could not cross the river and then he was compelled to shift himself to the nearby Lohit Khabaloo Gaon Panchayat along with his companions. Dr. Das spent the Thursday night at Lohit Khabaloo Gaon Panchayat wherein he took part in a series of election campaign programmes on Friday.
