Congress expels 47 party activists, including two former legislators in Lakhimpur district

LAKHIMPUR: After losing three seats out of four Legislative Assembly Constituencies (LACs) under Lakhimpur district in Assam Legislative Assembly Election, 2021, the Lakhimpur District Congress Committee (LDCC) has initiated strict action against those party activists who were involved in anti-party activities. As a part of such initiative, LDCC on Tuesday expelled altogether 47 such party activists, including two former MLAs and three former general secretaries of LDCC.

According to a press release sent to media by LDCC president Pradip Gogoi, 18 expelled party activists out of 47 were under the jurisdiction of No. 110 Naoboicha LAC while rest 28 activists were under the jurisdiction of No. 111 Lakhimpur LAC. The LDCC president further informed that these party activists were expelled for six years as per reports submitted by the Block Committees concerned. The expelled activists of Naoboicha LAC are— former Naoboicha MLA Sanjay Raj Subba, former LDCC general secretaries Pankaj Saikia and Mridul Saikia, Basanta Borah, Kalpana Baruah, Ayub Ali, Inamul Hasan, Anish Ahmed, Naren Saikia, Habibur Rahman, Shakuntala Pawe, Nur Muhammad, Shahnaz Begum, Nazarul Islam, Subhadra Gogoi, Rupa Dutta, Makhan Saikia, Ashok Choudhury and Khairul Islam.

On the other hand, the expelled activists under Lakhimpur LAC are— former MLA Ghana Buragohain, former LDCC general secretary Bikhananda Mili along with Congress leaders Bhupen Hazarika, Pitambar Pegu, Mandita Pegu, Niten Taid, Tankeswar Saikia, Rafik Ahmed, Muhammad Sahabuddin, Pradip Saikia, Bhaben Sarmah, Ranjan Taid, Prahlad Taid, Manoram Taid, Ramesh Taid, Raju Panging, Dharmendra Payang, Mumkul Chutiya, Prabhat Panging, Manik Gogoi, Hemchandra Tamuli, Bijay Doley, Balin Doley, Manikanta Doley, Tanka Saikia, Hemanga Chetiya, Jibaram Pegu and Dina Borah.
