DIGBOI: Recalling the brighter days of the Congress regime in Digboi and Assam as a whole, Biraj Rajkhowa, the newly-appointed Joint Secretary of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, reiterated that the lost glory of the party in Digboi would be restored in 2026.

Rajkhowa, currently holding the charge of General Secretary of the OBC department of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, and with a precedence of strong contribution and loyalty to Congress party, interacted with The Sentinel at the office of the Digboi Journalists’ Union on Thursday afternoon.

Rajkhowa believed that with Gaurav Gogoi steering the wheel of the Indian National Congress (INC) in the state, the political landscape would undergo a radical change after the 2026 Assembly Election slated in the state.

While expressing gratitude to the top brass of the AICC and APCC including Gaurav Gogoi for endorsing new responsibilities, he expressed confidence of delivering his best to escalate the glory of the party.

The youth leader, who had started his political career in 2003 as the General Secretary of Digboi Block NSU, had also served the INC as President of Digboi Block of NSUI in 2006, President of Tinsukia district NSUI in 2010, rising to the position of President of Dibrugarh Lok Sabha Youth Congress Committee in 2015 and Secretary of Assam Pradesh Youth Congress Committee in 2017.

Meanwhile, the wave of happiness among the Congressmen in Digboi following the new assignment to Rajkhowa was testimony of Rajkhowa’s dedication and unyielding leadership qualities that alone could put up a strong representation of the party from Digboi assembly constituency in Tinsukia district.

“My prime duty at this stage is to consolidate our party base and reaffirm our commitment to the party and service to the people, building new hopes among the workers and leaders to march ahead with a stronger and renewed determination,” said Rajkhowa.

Reluctant to comment much about the ruling BJP government in the state, Rajkhowa concluded by saying that the people would see the changes after the 2026 election, and that the BJP government must be prepared to face tragedy in 2026.
