SILCHAR: After forging alliance with AIUDF, Congress is desperate to regain the lost ground in Barak Valley, once its bastion. In 2016, Congress has to remain content with 2 of the 15 seats only. The greatest hurdle before party leaders is how to Cross the Rubicon mainly for two reasons. First, its tie up with AIUDF has shrunk its seats for contest, an alliance that has been accepted by the leaders against their will. Secondly, it is faced with the formidable challenge of BJP and AGP combine. While the saffron brigade has found their poll campaign boosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, MP Manoj Tiwari and now Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of UP, is scheduled to add grist to it by his three public meetings. All this has virtually activated the BJP leaders, workers and activists in poll mode.

Till date, no star campaigner of Congress has set his foot in the valley. Cachar district Congress under the dynamic leadership of Sushmita Dev, Ex MP and All India Mahila Congress Committee, has been on campaign trail to encourage party leaders and workers. After Jitendra Singh, Supriya Sinha, All India Congress spokesman, has been campaigning with Sushmita Dev in different constituencies for mass contact and holding press meets to explain the vision of the party. She laid bare the 5 point programme to beat the adversaries who have only kept the people hoping against hope by doling out nothing but false promises.

At a press-meet held in Indira Bhawan here today, Supriya Sinha sought the help and cooperation of voters to end the much known Syndicate Raj of BJP in the valley by voting to power her party. Unemployment of educated unemployed counted as 3 lakh in the valley is a burning problem on which the saffron alliance is silent. She said if voted to power her government will create job opportunities for 5 lakh unemployed youths. Electricity bill for 200 unit will be given free per month to each family. Monthly stipend of Rs 2000 will be given to woman member of each family. Farmers will be provided Rs 10,000 each and the wages of tea garden workers to be raised to Rs 365 per month. The question is, can Congress break the strong hold of BJP-AGP alliance in the valley? Time alone will tell.
