Controlling COVID: Aadhar Centres in Assam Shut till May 31

Guwahati: In view of the rising number of COVID cases in Assam, the state government has ordered the closure of all Aadhar centres across the state till May 31. No Aadhar card registration will take place in the state till May 31. An order to this effect was issued on Friday, May 14.

The government has already asked all govt and non-govt offices to remain shut till May 27. Weekly markets too have been shut. Summer vacations for Classes 1 to 12 have been preponed to May 15 and would continue till June 14 instead of the normal schedule of summer holidays from July 1 to July 31.

All educational institutes, coaching centres, training institutes have already been shut indefinitely.

Curfew has been imposed every day from 2 PM till 5 AM next days and shops and business establishments are shut by 1 PM every day. These measures would be in place till May 27. In case these measures do not help in curbing the rise in COVID numbers then the government could look at other options like a complete lockdown.

The government has also put in place the odd-even car number policy to restrict the movement of people during non-curfew hours.

The restrictions are with exemptions.

Assam recorded 75 deaths and 5,468 new COVID cases on Thursday, May 13. The positivity rate stands at 9.81%.

Each of the Assam Cabinet Ministers has been assigned districts. The ministers have to visit these districts to review the COVID arrangements, see if every district has the necessary medical requirements and people are following COVID protocol to contain the spread that is now impacting the rural areas.

Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta had earlier warned that anyone found violating the COVID protocols would be booked for murder.
