Dibrugarh: As the threat of COVID-19 looms large, a state of panic, as well as self-awareness, has gripped most people here.

Things got worse when Dr. Hemanta Dutta, Head of the Department of PDR and Paediatric Surgery, AMCH, was suspected to have been infected by the virus and was accordingly tested on Thursday.

As per sources, Dutta had a travel history to Dubai and came back on March 7.

Fortunately, the people heaved a sigh of relief when he was declared negative after the ICMR test results based on the samples sent to it indicated the same.

However, it was learnt that the medical fraternity of AMCH took exception to the fact that Dutta had made the overseas journey without informing the authorities concerned, including the Principal of Assam Medical College and Hospitals.

In a refreshing move, however, faculty members of MDKG Chemistry Department formulated WHO recommended hand rub and distributed the same among policemen and public.

Also, a disinfecting exercise was reported to have been carried out at the Dibrugarh Airport under which, upon every arrival, X-BIS, trays, tables, lifts and railings, inter alia, were cleansed as a preventive measure against COVID-19.
