Covid-19 in Nagaland: 5 more test positive, state tally reaches 123

Guwahati: Amid the return of stranded citizens, Nagaland reported 5 more cases of the Covid-19 on Monday. With the detection of these fresh cases, the cases of Covid-19 in Nagaland rose to 123.

According to officials, out of these 5 fresh cases, 2 are from quarantine centres in Dimapur, while 3 are from the capital city Kohima. "5 new cases of COVID-19 positive have been reported out of 220 samples tested. 2 are from Dimapur quarantine centre and 3 are from Kohima quarantine centre", Nagaland Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom tweeted moments earlier.

It may be recalled here that Nagaland reported its first cases of the virus on Tuesday, May 26, after three persons who had returned from Chennai tested positive. After the first cases were detected in the state, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio took to Twitter to announce this. "Unfortunately, two persons in Dimapur and one in Kohima have been tested positive for COVID-19. Please do not panic. We need to handle it with utmost care and responsibility. Necessary action of contact tracing and containment measures are being taken and the situation closely monitored", he wrote on Twitter.

Since then, the number of cases has risen dramatically, which can be largely attributed to the return of thousands of citizens who were stuck in other states amid the coronavirus-triggered lockdown. Yesterday, 8 patients were discharged, becoming the first batch of recoveries in the state.

Meanwhile, coronavirus cases in India crossed 2.56 lakh cases on Monday after a record number of 9,983 cases were reported in 24 hours, even as the government allowed a number of relaxations after over two months of lockdown. This is the biggest single-day jump in cases as the country recorded over 9,000 cases for the sixth consecutive day.
