COVID-19 Vaccine Manipulation Found in Assam, Unregistered People Vaccinated at Unlisted Centre

GUWAHATI: At the time when most of the people in the country are deprived of COVID-19 vaccine either because of shortage of vaccine or unavailability of slots on the portal, reports are, coming from the Cachar district wherein people have allegedly been vaccinated without registration at unlisted centres.

According to reports, people were inoculated against Covid-19 by a section of the health department employees in an unauthorised vaccination centre.

Further, the report also claimed that names of those who got the vaccine there have not been registered on the government's Co-WIN platform. An estimated 80 people were allegedly vaccinated at the centre on Wednesday without maintaining any record.

The vaccination centre, which is not included in the government-approved list of such facilities, is located on the premises of the Silchar Civil Hospital.

Meanwhile, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Health) Sumit Sattawan said that he has asked the Additional Chief Medical and Health Officer, Dr PK Roy, to hold an inquiry into the incident and submit a detailed report.

Notably, Cachar is under the gloomy shadow of galloping corona shadow. This is not only a frightening situation but also raising a relevant question in the public mind, when will normalcy return to remove anxiety?

According to District Media Expert, Suman Choudhury, 236 cases tested on Monday positive in Cachar which include 21 RT-CPR and 215 RAT. In all, 3,442 RAT (Rapid Antigen Test) was done. Of the 373 Air passengers alighting at Kumbhirgram Airport today, 4 came out to be positive after being subjected to test at M G Model Hospital, Tikal. On Saturday, 312 cases turned out to be the highest that includes 114 RT-CPR and 198 RAT.

The second wave has so far claimed 12 lives. The 140-bed capacity COVID ward of SMCH is nearing saturation point though the hospital source says there is no shortage of oxygen and lack of other basic medical facilities. Despite repeated requests from the administration, people continue to have a callous attitude towards COVID Protocol as was seen in the Metro Bazar.

A team of police led by a magistrate had to intervene to melt away the crowd.
