COVID cases on decline in Dhubri district

DHUBRI: There are only 115 COVID-19 positive cases in Dhubri district, of which 37 are undergoing treatment in hospitals while 78 patients are in home isolation and total death toll is 72 as on Friday.

An official source informed that till August 2, Dhubri district received 3,27, 810 doses of vaccines, of which 3,24,635 persons were vaccinated till Friday. A total of 2,57,827 persons were vaccinated with first dose while 66,808 persons were given their second dose till Friday, the source further informed.

When contacted, Dhubri District Immunization Officer, Dr. Joydip Bhattacharyya informed that the rate of vaccination was very slow when they started on January 16, but gradually it went up from mid April.

"Now the situation has come to such a pass that we are unable to cope up with the demand, because it entirely depends on the supply of vaccine. Still whatever number of vaccines we are getting, all are being allotted to the selected (as per demand) vaccination centres and vaccination is being done smoothly without any chaos and hassle," Dr. Bhattacharyya informed.

Dr. Bhattacharyya also informed that wastage of vaccine in Dhubri district was 0.4, which was much low compared to other districts. Due to increasing awareness about COVID-19 among the people, all sections of people are coming out in a big way to get vaccinated in the district resulting in flattening of the COVID curve gradually.
