Assam: Enforcement Inspector of Dhubri Collects Fine Amount to Rs 20 Lakh, Keeps to Himself

GUWAHATI: The tainted Assam Transport Department official, Ariful Islam who was lately apprehended by the Criminal Investigation Department of the Assam Police has allegedly, amassed huge sums of money in the form of fines collected from truckers.

It has also come to light that the accused person had also donated amounts to the tune of Rs 1 lakh to the CM's relief fund to be utilized during the COVID-19 pandemic.

As per latest reports unearthed during the probe of this investigation, the accused Transport Department Official Islam, who was serving as the Assistant Enforcement Inspector at Dhubri, amassed fines to a whooping amount of Rs 20 lakh that he collected from 126 truckers and kept to himself.

Sources further confirmed that the tainted official Islam was carrying out his unscrupulous activities while being partners in crime with the Deputy Superintended of Police Jatin Das.

It may be mentioned that Das, who has been already arrested for his alleged involvement into the matter amassed this huge sum of money from the trucks plying over the National Highway. He also pocketed a large portion of this amount while rampantly abusing his official position.

Notably, the CID officials produced Islam before the Special Court Judge, Assam on Friday which remanded him to judicial custody.

"A team of the CID will question him in the jail. The Court has granted permission for this. He has pocketed around Rs. 20 lakh out of total Rs. 26 lakh collected as fine. He deposited the remaining money in the government exchequer," sources added.

Sources further added that the arrested Transport Department official donated Rs. 1 lakh to the CM's COVID relief Fund to get respite from arrest. "He shared his photos with the Chief Minister when he donated Rs 1 lakh towards the CM's Fund on Facebook and Twitter,'' Sources further claimed.
