MANGALDAI: Former General Secretary of Assam Natya Sanmilan, an active organizer of the drama movement in Assam, an actor of high repute of amateur theatre and director Bipul Chaliha (58) of Mangaldai, has closed his chapter in this world.

He breathed his last on Saturday afternoon at about 4 pm in Guwahati Medical College Hospital. Though a few days back he was shifted to GMCH after being infected by COVID-19, but later he tested negative.

He was the eldest son of Gajendra Deka and Meera Deka of Tengabari, Ward No. 6 of Mangaldai Town. Since his school days, he was deeply involved with the drama movement and earned a high reputation for his performances in one-act plays in different theatre halls in the State. He also earned a good name for his expertise in anchoring any function.

He has left behind his mother, wife, two sons and three younger brothers beside his family members. All sections of society in Mangaldai have deeply mourned his untimely demise.
