Custodial torture in Panchgram: Hailakandi Police Officials Face Disciplinary Action

Silchar:  Dilowar Hussain Laskar, the Sub Inspector and Kalpajyoti Bora, the Officer-in-Charge of Panchgram police station were facing punishment for the alleged custodial torture they had been accused of. The Hailakandi SP Leena Doley had closed Laskar to the reserved section of the force while Bora had been served a transfer order.

Hailakandi police authority had taken such strict measures against its own staff following a complaint lodged by the family of Moinul Islam Laskar, a driver, had been picked up by the Panchgram police and tortured him mercilessly inside the custody. The incident occurred on November 25 night. On Wednesday, the family members of Moinul brought the matter to the notice of Doley.

Later Moinul identified Dilowar Hussain who, as he alleged, beat him mercilessly and released him after taking Rs 30 thousand as bribe. Moinul reportedly said that he was summoned by the Panchgram police for a video he had allegedly uploaded in the social media. SP Doley had ordered an inquiry into the matter.
