Darrang Deputy Commissioner Dilip Kumar Borah visits flood affected areas

MANGALDAI: The overall flood situation in Darrang has remained unchanged with a large number of villages along the Brahmaputra River still submerged under flood water in the second wave of flood. The helpless villagers have been compelled to take shelter in the highlands and embankments along with their family members and cattle. With a view to take the stock of the flood situation, Darrang Deputy Commissioner Dilip Kumar Borah visited the flood-affected areas in an engine boat recently. During his day-long visit, he interacted with flood-affected villagers of village Puthimari, Gasbari, Hiloikhunda, Nangli sar, Mowamari and Armimari.

Accompanied by Circle Officer of Mangaldai Revenue Circle, Dipshikha Saikia, he also visited the Gasbari village on the south bank of Brahmaputra River adjacent to Morigaon district where he witnessed the villagers taking shelter on the roof tops of their fully submerged dwelling houses. On seeing the poor plight of the flood-affected villagers, he immediately asked the Circle Officer to provide relief materials, baby food and cattle feed in this remote area. As per the instruction of the Deputy Commissioner, the Public Health Engineering department has installed two hand tube wells in the highland of village Gasbari. A team of media persons, namely secretary of Mangaldai Press Club, Mukut Raj Sarma, senior journalist Hemant Kumar Barua and Lakkhi Kalita also accompanied the Deputy Commissioner during his visit.

Meanwhile, Darrang district administration till date has provided a total of 4,423 quintals of rice, 822 quintals of dal and ten quintals of chira among the flood-affected people under Sipajhar, Mangaldai, Dalgaon and Patharighat Revenue Circle area of the district. Similarly, 45476.62 quintals of rice bran has also been distributed as cattle feed in the district.
