Darrang Police apprehends another notorious poacher identified as Jakir Hussain

MANGALDAI: The Darrang Police, in their continuing operation against the organized armed gang of poachers, arrested another hardcore absconding poacher on June 29. The arrested poacher has been identified as Jakir Hussain (48) of Moirabari area in Marigaon district.

Acting on a tip off, Superintendent of Police of Darrang, Amrit Bhuyan himself led operation and arrested the poacher from village Bogoribari under Shyampur Police Station. A few days back, the police had arrested notorious poacher Suresh Hembrom of village Ranipukhuri of Sarupothar area in Golaghat district and recovered a.303 rifle along with ammunition while two of his accomplices, including Jakir Hussain, managed to flee away from the spot taking the advantage of darkness. Meanwhile, the arrested poacher Jakir Hussain has confessed his involvement in a number of poaching cases in Orang National Park.

Darrang Police have been carrying out special operation against the organized armed gang of poachers who are creating a tremendous threat to the highly endangered species of one-horned rhinos in Orang National Park and Orang Tiger Reserve –the only habitat of the rhinos on the northern bank of River Brahmaputra. Immediately after taking over as the Darrang Superintendent of Police, Amrit Bhuyan geared up the entire police team and intensified the operation against the gang of poachers. This has resulted in the arrest of a number of poachers and recovery of arms and ammunition from the possession of the poachers.
