Darrang Police rescues cattle meant for transportation to Bangladesh

MANGALDAI: The Darrang Police in a major achievement against the organized gang of illegal cattle traders has rescued 20 cattle and arrested two cattle smugglers in this connection. According to reports, the organized gang of cattle smugglers taking the chance of the hectic poll schedule duty by the police tried to transport the cattle from Dalgaon for its onward transportation to Bangladesh via Jorabat. As the Superintendent of Police Amrit Bhuyan has already issued strict direction to all the police stations of the district to take a tough stand against this organized gang of illegal cattle traders, Officer-in-Charge of Dhula Police Station, Sub Inspector Kolyan Borah on a tip off on Saturday night intercepted a truck (AS 01 MC 2959) on NH 15 and rescued the cattle.

Meanwhile, the Dhula Police has registered a case vide number 62/2021 under section 379/411 IPC read with section 11 (a) of Prevention of Cruelty to Animal Act and produced both the cattle lifters in the Court. The court has remanded both the accused persons to the judicial custody in Mangaldai District Jail. In a separate case, the Dhula Police arrested a person along with 20 kg ganja.
