KOKRAJHAR: The Dularai Boro Harimu Afat (DBHA), a central cultural organization of the Bodos, on Tuesday came down heavily against Dilip Hira, the event manager of Sribhumi Axom, for allegedly distorting Bodo folk dance in the celebration of North East Festival, 2021 held at NTPC, Bongaigaon at Salakati on December 11 and December 12. The organization has lodged an FIR against Sribhumi Axom at Kokrajhar PS.

Talking to reporters at DBHA office, Kokrajhar on Tuesday, the president of the organization, Jogeswar Brahma said that Sribhumi Axom, led by Dilip Hira, had distorted the traditional 'Bagurumbha' and 'Bardwisikla' folk dance during the North East Festival at NTPC, Bongaigaon. He said the Bodos had their own traditional musical instruments, costumes, lyrics, notation but the Dilip Hira-led Sribhumi Axom hired Bodo dance group from outside and used irrelevant instruments in the traditional folk dance.

He also said the folk Bodo music, song and dance showed during mega North East Festival had used neither folk instruments nor matched the traditional value but it was totally an insult to Bodo culture and tradition.

Strongly condemning the alleged distortion of Bodo traditional music, song and dance, Brahma said the DBHA will not allow any distorted form of folk music and dance. He said they have already lodged an FIR at Kokrajhar PS and urged the administration to take strong action against Sribhumi Axom so that the organization does not make such a mistake again in future.

The spokesperson of the DBHA, Sanjib Kr. Brahma said, "Sribhumi Axom led by Dilip Hira is a professional and commercial event management company. We cannot tolerate the distorted Bodo folk music and dance performed by his group in the grand cultural event. We have distinct art and musical instruments for use in traditional folk dance like Bagurumbha and Bardwisikla."

He added that they wanted action against Sribhumi Axom as early as possible. He also said they had respect for the traditional music, song and dance of all communities and thus, Bodo folk music and dance should be given due respect.
