Guwahati: Court Sentences Man To Life Imprisonment For Beheading Wife In 2011

Guwahati: On Thursday, a man was sentenced to life imprisonment for a murder he committed in 2011 by the Court of the District & Sessions Judge, Kamrup.

The accused identified as Ranjit Das had beheaded his wife Amiya Daimary. He was detained after he was found walking on the streets of the Hengrabari area of Guwahati with his wife's severed head and a blood-stained machete on the day of Bijaya Dashami on October 6, 2011.

As per reports, Das was on his way to the Dispur Police Station when he was arrested by the police.

At that time, the police were unable to file a charge sheet within 90 days of committing the crime and Das was granted bail by the court.

Das, who was an auto-rickshaw driver by profession, was however sent to the Guwahati Central Jail for not being able to submit the two surety bonds of Rs.15,000 which he was asked to pay by the court for being granted the bail.

In other news, the police arrested three persons identified as Sahidur Rahman, Noor Alam, and Hazarat Ali in connection to the murder of Bishal Roy whose body was found with cut marks in a drain near the Bhangagarh area in Guwahati.

After interrogation, it was revealed that one of the accused, Sahidur Rahman, had lent money to Bishal Roy.
