Demand for ST status to Koch Rajbongshis in Tezpur

Tezpur: “The BJP government has hurt our Koch Rajbongshi sentiments. We were struggling for the last 71 years for our right to get ST status. But the BJP government gave us hope and then neglected,” stated Dr. Parashmoni Sinha, chief advisor of AKRSU, in a press release. He sent a letter to the Prime Minister of India and also to the Union Home Minister on February 3, appealing for justice for the Koch Rajbongshi tribe. “BTAD, now BTR, was part of Kamatapur kingdom and as per 1881 census there were 19 tribes, namely Bodos, Koches, Mechs, Garos, Kacharis, Rabhas, Mahalias, Bhutias, Chutias, Morans, Tiwas and Sonowals before Ahoms in Assam,” the release said.
