Demand to Release Scheduled Caste Students’ Scholarships from 2010-11

LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur district body of All Assam Scheduled Caste (SC) Students’ Union submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal demanding him to mitigate various problems of the native caste and Lakhimpur district. The memorandum was submitted to Hrishikesh Goswami, the CM’s media advisor at Dispur, by Hemanta Bania, the Lakhimpur district president of the organization, on Friday.

The organization demanded release of SC students’ scholarships from 2010-11, to initiate immediate appointment process to fill up the vacant backlog posts of the SC, to declare the Sati Radhika Samanway Kshetra and a Cultural Bhavan near North Lakhimpur by-pass and to resolve the flood and erosion problem of Lakhimpur district.

Through the same memorandum, the organization further demanded the Chief Minister to construct the Bongaon-Dowargaon guide dam, to construct the Ghunasuti-Mohaijan connecting bridge over Subansiri River, to mitigate the Subansiri-Ghagar erosion problem with scientific measures, to construct the Bhimpora embankment of the Subansiri River which protects North Lakhimpur town, to evict the encroachments of the streams and other water bodies near North Lakhimpur town, to construct vocational training centres for SC students and to evict the encroachment of the Gosaipukhuri-Gharmora Xatra road, along with many other demands.
