Dengue Fever Cases Continue to Rise  in Assam

DIPHU: New cases of dengue continue to be reported from different parts of the state of Assam. The number of cases in the state has crossed the 400 mark as of Tuesday.

The total number of cases has increased to 427 as per a report from the National Health Mission, Assam. These cases have been reported from fourteen districts of the state. Karbi Anglong remains at the top of the list with a total of 400 positive cases of dengue fever. The report mentions that this number has been out of the tests performed between November 1 and 7.

The disease has also managed to claim four lives in the state of Assam. Three of these cases belong to the Karbi Anglong district while one has been reported from the Kamrup Metropolitan district of the state.

Around 100 cases of suspected dengue-infected people were tested in Diphu, out of which 59 people were tested positive for the disease. However, the number of patients who need institutional care has come down. Diphu Medical College Hospital now has 25 dengue patients admitted under their care on Tuesday. 33 dengue patients were admitted to the institution on Monday. This is the first time in the last few days that the number of hospitalized patients in the district has come down.

The announcement of the outbreak of dengue in the Karbi Anglong district came out last week. Following this, all educational institutions in Diphu were ordered to stay shut for a week in a big to prevent infection among children.

People living in close proximity to each other in the Diphu region have been mentioned to be a reason for not being able to control this infection. The administration has been taking fogging operations across the region to destroy the breeding grounds of mosquitoes, but it has not brought any relief Yet. A report suggested that the massive campaigns for the early detection and testing of the virus may lead to an increase in the number of infection cases, but it will soon go down as well.

Apart from Assam, Manipur is also facing a massive number of dengue infections.
