KOKRAJHAR: Along with the rest of the State, Desh Bhakti Divas was observed to commemorate Desh Bhakta Tarun Ram Phukan on his death anniversary. The programme was organized by the DIPRO, Kokrajhar, in association with Kokrajhar Press Club on Wednesday. The programme was organized at conference hall of Kokrajhar Press Club.

As part of the programme, the DIPRO, Kokrajhar, TN Bora paid floral tribute at the portrait of Desh Bhakta Tarun Ram Phukan. A memorial lecture on the life and contribution of Tarun Ram Phukan to the freedom movement of India was also held.

Former president of Kokrajhar Press Club, Malaya Deka in her speech recalled the vast contributions of Phukan during the freedom movement of India. She said that Phukan was not only a freedom fighter but also a good statesman and a source of inspiration. Since his contributions were not known to the present generation, the government took the initiative to observe his death anniversary as Desh Bhakti Divas and this step was praiseworthy, she said. Journalists Kishore Sarkar and Hantigiri Narzary also spoke about his life and contributions.

DHUBRI: Desh Bhakti Divas was observed on the occasion of the 82nd death anniversary of Tarun Ram Phukan under the auspices of Dhubri district administration and the District Information and Public Relation office here at Netaji Dhubuni conference hall in Dhubri Circuit House on Wednesday.

After lighting of the lamp by Additional Deputy Commissioner Nitya Binod Wary and paying floral tribute to the portrait of Desh Bhakta Tarun Ram Phukan by dignitaries, the meeting started. The meeting was held under the president ship of Wary. Retired Principal of Fakiragram High School, Mihir Kanti Das spoke about Tarun Ram Phukan and secretary of Dhubri Sakha Sahitya Sabha, Jakir Hussain highlighted about the life and personality of the great freedom fighter.

The meeting was also addressed by Additional Deputy Commissioner Dhrubajyoti Das as chief guest. Dhubri district Treasury Officer, Dhirendra Kalita and Superintendent of Excise, Ananta Kalita were also present along with other dignitaries.

One- minute silence was also observed as a mark the respect to the departed souls of the six Assam Police personnel who were killed in the Assam-Mizoram border clash recently.

SIVASAGAR: Along with the rest of the State, Desh Bhakti Divas was observed in Sivasagar to honour Desh Bhakta Tarun Ram Phukan on his 82nd death anniversary. The programme was observed at the Syukafa conference hall of the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Sivasagar on Wednesday. Paying floral tributes before the portrait of Desh Bhakta Tarun Ram Phukan, Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner Bishnu Kamal Bora, in his address highlighted the contributions of Desh Bhakta Tarun Ram Phukan in the freedom movement.

"Desh Bhakta Tarun Ram Phukan's contributions to the freedom struggle are indelible. Observing the Divas will inspire the new generation to go through the sacrifices he made for the country and his enormous contribution to the freedom struggle and other social causes," Bora said. The Deputy Commissioner also remembered the other freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for India's independence. Five freedom fighters of Sivasagar, Khaniram Mili, Phula Chandra Gohain, Puneswar Duwarah, Gakul Gogoi and Makhan Satnami were felicitated on the occasion.
