Dhakuakhana College will be moulded into prominent academic institution: Naba Kumar Doley

LAKHIMPUR: Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Naba Kumar Doley assured to mould Dhakuakhana College into a noted academic institution of the State. The minister, who is also the MLA of Dhakukhana Constituency, stated that no stone would be left unturned with regard to shaping the college as a leading academic institution.

The minister made this statement while taking part in the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the construction of the new classroom block of the college which has been spearheading the intellectual movement and academic and cultural development of Dhakuakhana subdivision as an old academic institution. Notably, the new classroom block of the college will be constructed with the investment of a fund amounting to Rs 1 crore allotted under Rastriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA or National Higher Education Mission), which is a holistic scheme of development for higher education initiated by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.

On the occasion of the foundation laying event, a ceremonial programme was organized in the college in the presence of the students, former and present faculties and local people. Taking part in the programme, the minister said that the college had contributed tremendously to the amelioration of the subdivision. “The role of each and every faculty of the college towards the academic development of the subdivision is highly admirable. The implementation of the RUSA fund for the infrastructural development will add a new dimension to the college,” he added. He promised to grant package from the MLA Fund too for the necessary development of the college.

In the programme which commenced with the welcome address by Principal Dr. Jogananda Sut, Dhakuakhana SDO Arindam Baruah, former Vice-Principal Bholanath Gogoi, and other dignitaries were present.

Notably, the college has got one more fund of Rs. 1 crore under RUSA 2.0 scheme. By utilizing of Rs 60 lakh out of this fund, the old building of the college will be repaired while Rs 20 lakh has been kept for the laboratory, Rs 10 lakh for the computer cell and the remaining Rs 10 lakh for sport development, as informed by the minister in the programme.

Besides attending the foundation-laying ceremonial programme, the minister took part in a meeting in order to hold discussion about the problems of the college organized at the conference hall in the presence of Vice-Principal Chitta Koch, Faculty Unit president Prakash Upadhyay, student coordinator Jiban Chandra Gogoi, secretaries of the Students’ Union, in-charge of the girls’ hostel and faculties of the college.
