For the first time in 73 years, venue of Republic Day celebration shifted to Satrasal border village from Dhubri district headquarters

DHUBRI: Dhubri Deputy Commissioner Dibakar Nath, along with high officials of the district administration and BSF, held a meeting with border villagers at Lakhimari village close to the Indo-Bangla international border on Tuesday.

Nath interacted with the villagers and beneficiaries as whether they have been receiving the benefits of schemes from ration cards, drinking water under JAL Jeevan Mission, electric and LPG connection.Besides these, Nath also asked about cultivation in the fields and whether they were getting minimum support price on sale of the paddy, condition of Anganwadi centres and schools in their villages, prevalence of girls' child marriage, availability of playground for children and asked many other questions on the development of villages.

Nath appealed to the villagers to get their children admitted in schools and ensure that they did notdrop out of school. On the demand by villagers for an alternative road along the border roads, Nath assured to look into their demands in phased manner and inspected the dilapidated bridge on River Torsha.

For the first time, it was decided that the 74th Republic Day will be celebrated in the border village Satrasal of Dhubri district this time instead of Raja Prabhat Chandra Barua field at Dhubri.An order has been issued by Dhubri Deputy Commissioner Dibakar Nath to all concerned to make all arrangements at Satrasal HS Vidyapith playground as it is usually done at the Raja Prabhat Chandra Barua field.

In the order issued by Dhubri Deputy Commissioner, Dibakar Nath said that the move was taken in the larger public interest and to encourage people from border areas to participate in the Republic Day. "Schedule of the programme will remain same as communicated by this office's earlier invitation," Nath stated.

Official sources informed that all the transportation for people in general and invitees in particular would be arranged accordingly at Raja Prabhat Chandra Barua field to take them to Satrasalat 6 AM on January 26.This is the first time in 73 years that the venue of celebration of Republic Day has been changed, an official source further informed.
