Dhubri district administration is planning to go all out to prevent road mishaps and save precious lives that are lost due to riding bikes without helmets, careless driving, over speeding and drunk driving.

DHUBRI: Dhubri district administration is planning to go all out to prevent road mishaps and save precious lives that are lost due to riding bikes without helmets, careless driving, over speeding and drunk driving. In order to streamline the traffic on roads including NH 31 in Dhubri district, several steps were taken by the Dhubri District Road Safety Committee (DDRSC) for the last few months. New and innovative ideas are also being added to the campaign to ensure safety of people on roads, bus and truck drivers, passengers and bike riders.
A total of 312 road mishaps took place in Dhubri district from January to December in 2021 causing 119 fatalities and injuring 297 persons, while in 2022 till November, total road mishaps were recorded 248 in which 81 persons died and 256 sustained major injuries, a source in the Dhubri District Transport Office said.
A meeting of DDRSC chaired by Dhubri Deputy Commissioner, Dibakar Nath, was held recently in the DC Conference Hall, wherein officials of all the concerned department including Dhubri Superintendent of Police, Aparna Natarajan were present.
Dhubri Deputy Commissioner Dibakar Nath while addressing the meeting said that ensuring safety of people on roads off late shot up to a high level priority, and concerned department should act accordingly to bring down the mishaps by putting signage, creating awareness and by other means to connect more and more people and spread messages of road safety.
"As suggested by a member of the committee, we will soon issue an order to all petrol pumps of Dhubri district not to supply fuel to the bikers who aren't wearing helmets. Moreover, more steps will be taken by the concerned departments regarding road safety," Nath added.
