Dhubri Medical College to start functioning from next year: CM Himanta

DHUBRI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Dhubri Medical College will start functioning from next year after inspecting the progress of works here in Dhubri on Wednesday.

Sarma was on a two-day visit to Dhubri district. He arrived in Dhubri on Wednesday, that is on the day of Mahastami, by helicopter and straight away drove to Maa Mahamaya Temple at Bogribari offered prayer and performing rituals there.

On the way to Dhubri, Sarma visited the century-old Hawa Mahal at Matiabag Palace of Gauripur Royal Family and discussed about preservation of the palace. He later informed media persons that government officials would visit in November first week to inspect and survey for preservation of the objects and materials there and report to him. Accordingly, steps will be taken.

Sarma was warmly welcomed at Dhubri on GTB Road by the people of Dhubri. After spending some time at Dhubri Circuit House, he enthralled puja hoppers by visiting community Puja pandals, including two of the oldest Puja mandaps - Hari Sabha and Kalibari.

On Thursday morning, Sarma was felicitated by Sikh Pratinidhi Board, Eastern Zone at Dhubri Gurudwara Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib Ji. An ardas (prayer) for his well being was offered at the Darbar Hall.

Sarma was accompanied by Guardian Minister of Dhubri district who holds portfolios of P&RD, PHE, Food and Civil Supply, Ranjeet Kumar Dass and a host of party workers and former BJP legislators, Ashwani Roy Sarker and Ashok Kumar Singhi.
