Dibrugarh, Moran Schools Shut as COVID Cases Rise

Dibrugarh/Moran: Dibrugarh administration has said that schools will remain shut for one week as the district has recorded over 100 COVID cases. Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had said that all districts with over 100 cases can decide to shut schools. Dibrugarh has recorded 154 cases on April 23.

In Moran also school authorities announced that classes will remain closed (including class 10) for one week from April 24.

Most of the schools in Assam have cancelled classes due to COVID 19.

Some schools have cancelled their classes up to class eight and some up to class ten standards.

Speaking to the media, a school teacher said, "We have cancelled classes due to Covid 19. The decision was taken in view of the rising number of Covid 19 cases. We have cancelled classes including Class 10 and 9."

According to the daily bulletin issued by the NHM Assam, as many as 154 COVID-19 positive cases have been detected in the Dibrugarh district on Friday (April 23). Dibrugarh has registered 739 positive cases on April 23. Read more

Further, 1 more COVID-19 death was also recorded in Dibrugarh.

On Thursday, Kokrajhar's D.N.H. High School was declared as a containment zone after the Principal and staff of the school tested positive for COVID-19. The Kokrajhar administration has restricted the entry and exit points of the school after they tested positive. Also, the movement of people and vehicles within the area has been strictly prohibited. Earlier in the week, students of NPS International School, Guwahati were found positive for COVID-19 while in Jatiya Vidyalaya in Noonmati, Guwahati teachers were found to be positive for COVID-19. The Kamrup Metro District Administration has directed the authorities of NPS International School, Betkuchi and Jatiya Vidyalaya, Noonmati on Tuesday to close the schools for the next seven days. The district administration has directed the Circle Officer of Dispur Revenue Circle to seal the areas immediately.

Don Bosco School, Guwahati, one of the premier educational institutes of the city too has closed the school amid rising COVID cases in the city.
