DIBRUGARH: Ahead of Independence Day, Dibrugarh police have started intensified operations against ULFA-I. Security forces are regularly conducting anti-sabotage checks across critical installations and public spaces in the city. They are on alert and heavy check-ups have been going on in the Dibrugarh district to thwart any attempt to disrupt law and order.

“A group of ULFA-I cadres has already sneaked into Assam and has taken refuge in a safe area. They are planning to bomb important installations in Upper Assam. They have sneaked through the Assam-Arunachal border,” said a source.

“We have intensified anti-insurgency operations against the proscribed groups. Naka checking and area domination exercises are going on on a regular basis. Search operations and pickups are being conducted on those who have links with the ULFA-I,” said Dibrugarh SSP Rakesh Reddy. He added, “We are taking all possible measures to thwart any kind of eventualities. We have alerted our intelligence sources and urge the public to cooperate with us.”

Security agencies in Dibrugarh remain on high alert during this period, given ULFA-I’s history of attempting to disrupt activities around Independence Day.
