DIGBOI: The Nepali Vishnu Mandir, a historical temple believed to be built during the British era in Digboi, endorsed a new managing committee formally to oversee its affairs for the new session here in Tinsukia district.
The official swearing-in ceremony of a robust 23- member Shree Shree Nepali Vishnu Mandir Committee was held recently following a unanimous decision to this effect. Narayan Jaishy, a veteran athlete-cum -former AOD employee, was unanimously selected as the president to steer the administrative wheels of the pioneer socio-cultural institution established in the year 1942 in the heart of the oil town Digboi.
Similarly, Deepak Paudel, and Diwakar Sharma were endorsed with the responsibility of joint secretaries while Mohan Pandey was appointed the Treasurer.
To secure a full -fledged body, Shaligram Upadhyay, Shobhit Kumar Chhetri, and Ratna Bahadur Chhetri were selected as vice-presidents and Hiralal Sharma as the Cultural Secretary.
“Being one of the oldest, the Vishnu Mandir is a highly active spiritual and socio- cultural institution offering extensive religious services and community welfare,” said Jaishy, the incumbent President,
The committee decided to accord a red carpet welcome and felicitate a decorated personality, Deboraj Upadhyay, a former IPS Officer and incumbent Chairman of state’s premier government recruitment body, APSC, at the auditorium of the Mandir on Saturday morning. Notably, Upadhyay has been the recipient of the president’s Police Medal for distinguished service and has previously served as the Inspector General of the Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Assam Police.
