GAURISAGAR: The freshman social of Dikhowmukh College in Sivasagar was held on Friday at the college auditorium. The daylong programme started with the lighting of a lantern by Rupjyoti Baruah, vice-principal of the college. Later, the students performed a chorus.
Earlier, Dr Ranjit Kumar Baruah, principal of the college, delivered the welcome speech. The other dignitaries who attended the function were Nibha Pegu, Member of Mising Autonomous Council (MAC), Dichang-Dikhow constituency, social worker Arunjyoti Gogoi, Jitu Dutta, social worker-cum-donor of Khagendra Nath Dutta Memorial Best Graduate Award Trust, and Lutfun Nahar, former principal of the college, Pabitra Kumar Dutta, former principal-in-charge of the college, Lakshi Dutta, Geetamoni Borah, Abonti Neog, and Prabhat Saikia.
In the meeting, a total of 30 students were felicitated for successfully passing the HS examination. Among them, two students, namely Angshuman Goswami and Neelakshi Kalita were specially felicitated by the college principal for their outstanding performance in HS examination by securing letter marks in all subjects.
In the function, the students of the college who obtained best graduates in the 2025 BA exam under Dibrugarh University were felicitated. Among them were Barsha Rani Bharali (Assamese), Rituparna Dutta (Economics), Rebat Baruah (History), Sukanya Bora (Sociology), Monima Panging (Political Science), Lakimoni Bora (Education), and Devajani Sadhanidar(English).
Lakimoni Bora, a student of the Department Of Education, was conferred the Khagendra Nath Dutta Memorial Best Graduate Award instituted by noted social worker Jitu Dutta and his family. On the other hand, Manshi Devi received the best punctuality award for the first time initiated by the non-teaching staff of the college. The function was anchored by Pabitra Kalita, a student of the college, while the welcome speech was delivered by Tribeni Saikia, Assistant General Secretary of the student union body.
Earlier in the function, principal Dr Ranjit Kumar Baruah unveiled a text book written by Associate Professor of the college Dr Pranjit Baruah.
