HAFLONG: In a bid to gain firsthand insight into the operations of the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Haflong, the only government technical institute in Dima Hasao, representatives from prominent Dimasa organizations, including Jadikhe Naisho Hosom (JNH), the All Dimasa Students’ Union (ADSU), and the Dimasa Students’ Union (DSU), visited the institute at BB Haflong on Tuesday.
The delegation included Kailen Daolagupu, President of JNH, Arup Gorlosa, Vice President of JNH, Ringpendro Nunisa, GS, JNH, Uttam Langthasa of ADSU, and Pramith Sengyung, General Secretary of the DSU Central Committee. The team met with ITI Principal JP Raijoung and held discussions on the institute’s current operations, available trades, and the challenges it faces as the district’s sole technical education provider.
Speaking to the media, JNH President Kailen Daolagupu acknowledged the institute’s longstanding contribution to technical education for the youth of Dima Hasao and beyond. However, he expressed concern over the shortage of faculty and limited trade options, urging the government to address these gaps. “The ITI has played a crucial role in empowering our youth, but the current lack of faculty and trade diversity is a serious issue. We appeal to the government to expand both faculty strength and trade offerings to ensure better opportunities for our youth,” he said.
Echoing similar sentiments, Pramith Sengyung, General Secretary of the DSU Central Committee, appealed to both the Government of Assam and the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council (DHAC) to take proactive steps for the development and sustainability of the institute. “The wellbeing of this ITI is vital for the future of our youth. We urge the authorities to prioritize its growth and improvement,” he stated.
