Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, Silchar seizes huge quantity of foreign cigarettes
In yet another haul of smuggled consignment on the Assam-Mizoram border, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) swung into action to seize foreign cigarettes and mosquito coils.

SILCHAR: In yet another haul of smuggled consignment on the Assam-Mizoram border, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) swung into action to seize foreign cigarettes and mosquito coils.
Acting on specific information, the officers of DRI, Silchar sub-regional unit thwarted an attempt of smuggling and seized a vehicle containing 17,90,000 sticks of foreign cigarettes stacked in 179 cartons and 24,000 packets of Godzilla anti-mosquito coils in 300 cartons. The DRI team, assisted by Assam Rifles, stopped the vehicle at Sonabarighat which was coming from Mizoram via Lailapur border.
A DRI press note claimed the total seizure value of the smuggled consignment as well as the vehicle was Rs 3.80 crore. Sources said, the consignment was supposed to be delivered at Nongpoh in Meghalaya.
