KHERONI: A significant general meeting of scheduled caste youths was held on Sunday at Nawadeep Higher Secondary School, Kheroni Chariali, to establish the district body of the Assam Anusuchit Jati Yuva Chhatra Sanstha for West Karbi Anglong. The meeting, presided over by Jeetendra Harijan, Vice-Principal of Kapili College, saw enthusiastic participation from community members and dignitaries.

The event began with a warm felicitation of all guests by Bishnu Ram. During the meeting, the district body was formally constituted, with Bishnu Ram unanimously selected as President and Tuntun Ram appointed as General Secretary. The formation was overseen by central committee members Nripen Das (President), Nitya Nandan Das (General Secretary), and Ajit Das (Treasurer), who served as observers and mentors. The Sanstha aims to empower scheduled caste students by addressing their challenges, combating anti-social elements, and promoting awareness of constitutional rights among the youth. The organization is poised to become a vital platform for advocacy and social upliftment in the region.

As part of the programme, Ashish Kumar Ram, a NEET 2025 aspirant, was honoured with a certificate and a traditional gamosha for his dedication and efforts. The meeting also held a solemn condolence ceremony for Dr Ruplin Rongpipi, a Community Health Officer, who tragically passed away due to electrocution on July 2.

The event was graced by distinguished guests, including Prem Chand Ram (President), Nayan Bharati (Secretary), and Chhatrapati Ram (Vice-President) of the West Karbi Anglong Anusuchit Jati Parishad, whose presence underscored the importance of unity and collective action for the community’s progress.
