KOKRAJHAR: As part of its ongoing state-wide felicitation programme for working journalists, the District Congress Committee (DCC), Kokrajhar, on Sunday honoured Kokrajhar-based journalists at a special event held at Ranendra Narayan Basumatary Bhawan. Journalists were felicitated with traditional Aronai, along with notebooks and pens.
During the programme, District Coordinator of the Congress and Baokhungri BTC constituency ticket aspirant, Sunil Narzary, addressed the media and made serious allegations against the ruling United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL). Narzary claimed that UPPL activists have been distributing false land pattas in vulnerable areas of Baokhungri and collecting money under the pretence of registration for these pattas.
He alleged that this illegal activity is mostly targeting religious minority communities in remote villages, where residents are being charged money for registration forms, which he termed “completely illegal and unethical.”
Narzary further stated that with the BTC elections just a month away, no political party—ruling or opposition—has the authority to issue land pattas or offer such privileges. He warned voters not to fall for these “election-centric false promises” and urged them not to pay money to any political agents.
“If the UPPL government was serious about fulfilling its promises, why were they silent for the past five years? Why are they so active just weeks before the election?” Narzary questioned, adding that Baokhungri has suffered from severe neglect under the UPPL’s leadership. He also criticized the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) for its failure to bring tangible development to the region and assured voters that only the Congress party can bring real change to Baokhungri.
The felicitation event was chaired by Abdul Barek, media in-charge of the Kokrajhar District Congress Committee. Other dignitaries present included APCC secretary Garjan Mashahary, DICC president Prem Hasda, and APCC Kokrajhar media in-charge Medini Alom Bora, along with several district Congress leaders.
