MORIGAON: The two-day long District Day celebration began on Friday with a colourful cultural rally across the town. The cultural rally formally started from the school field and reached the same via Morigaon town. Earlier, the district administration led by Deputy Commissioner Devashis Sarma organized a plantation drive programme before the hoisting of the flag and the swahid tarpan programme. Thereafter, the colourful cultural rally moved, led by the Deputy Commissioner, towards the town.

More than 2,000 people in traditional attire participated in the rally. Thereafter, the theme song of the District Day prepared by the district administration was performed by more than 500 women. An open meeting was held under the presidency of the president of MDJA, Birinchi Sarma. The open meeting was attended by MLA Ramakanta Deuri, DC Devashis Sarma, noted Tiwa writer Mileswar Patar, Bubumoni Goswami, noted actress Zerifa Wahida, president of Asom Unnati Sabha, Atanu Sarma and social worker Haren Bora. On the eve of the District Day, a boating competition was also organized at Morigaon Charon Beel. Besides, two dramas were also performed at Gandhi Hall.
