HAILAKANDI: A four-year-old child was drowned in Dholeswari river in South Assam's Hailakandi district. SDRF personnel and deep divers from Silchar and Karimganj fished out the body after intensive search operation on Tuesday. The boy has been identified as Jaidul Islam Laskar.

The child who was playing near the river with his brother suddenly slipped into it at around 11 am on Monday. SDRF personnel and deep divers rushed to the spot but could not trace the boy. At around 10.30 am on Tuesday the body could be recovered.

Following the incident, the District Disaster Management Authority has issued a flood advisory for child safety in view of most deaths taking place due to drowning. District Project Officer, DDMA, Rupjoy Maibangsa said parents must keep an eye on their children as they are most vulnerable during flood and should not allow them to play around flooded areas. Citing the drowning incident of the child, Maibangsa said, "Don't let children get far from your sight and teach them about safety measures they should strictly adhere to during floods."
