ORANG: In a remarkable display of medical expertise and coordination, the doctors at Orang Community Health Centre in Udalguri district have once again achieved a major success. Under the leadership of Dr Jaydeep Surin, the medical team managed to save the life of a critically-ill child who had been bitten by a venomous snake.

The incident occurred on Saturday around 5 PM, when a four-and-a-half-year-old child was bitten by a common krait (locally known as ‘Feti Haap’), a highly venomous snake species. The child was brought to the health centre only around 7:10 PM almost two hours after the bite by which time his condition had become critical.

Dr Jaydeep Surin, who was on duty at the time, promptly initiated emergency treatment. The child was immediately administered anti-venom doses and given oxygen support to stabilize his condition. Thanks to the swift and accurate medical response, the child is now out of danger and recovering well under close observation.

Supporting the effort were Medical Officer Dr Gitismita Bora, nurses Junu Basumatary and Sumitra Newar, ward attendant Kunj Boro, and fourth grade staff Azizul Haque and Pankaj Bhuyan. Their teamwork and timely assistance played a crucial role in the child’s survival.

This is not the first time the Orang CHC has handled such a critical snakebite case successfully. Previously, Dr Surin had treated and saved a 24-year-old youth from Panbari named Rahul Daimary and an 11 year-old boy from Pakribari village named Dipankar Tanti, both victims of krait bites.

In light of this, local journalist associations including the Orang Journalists’ Forum and Pur Udalguri Press Club extended heartfelt appreciation and praise to the doctors and staff of Orang CHC for their commitment and excellence in emergency healthcare.

The health department has once again urged the public not to delay seeking medical attention in snakebite cases, emphasizing that timely intervention is critical to survival.
