TEZPUR: The 9th death anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika was observed at Tezpur by various organizations and educational institutions, including TezpurXahityaXabha, Ban Theatre, TrimurtiUddyan, JyotiBharati and BhupenHazarikaKalabhumi with day-long programmes.

The programme at TezpurXahityaXabha premises started with the lighting of the earthen lamp by international photographer, NaliniBarua and it was followed by floral tributes at the statue of the Sudhakantha by JadavSarmah, secretary of AxamXahityaXabha, Tezpur MLA BrindabanGoswami, Deputy Commissioner ManbendraPratap Singh and president of TezpurXahityaXabha, DrBhupenSaikia. The special attraction of the programme was EedhaBharduwaj singing DrBhupenHazarika's song ManuheManuhar Babe.

Speaking on the occasion, retired Professor and author PurneswarNath lauded DrHazarika's contribution to bringing the different communities and tribes of the State and the region together to form a strong bond of harmony and brotherhood. His vision encompassed the entire world, reflecting the mood and passion of the oppressed and downtrodden in his ballads and folk tunes that he picked up from different places. He called DrHazarika a global icon similar to the likes of Paul Robson and Nelson Mandela.

Attending the programme, Deputy Commissioner of Sonitpur, ManbendraPratap Singh said that Sudhakantha Dr. BhupenHazarika had touched the heart of everyone who loved music and humanity. He also said that Dr. BhupenHazarika was the pride of not only Assam but of the entire country.

Earlier, three books were released. They are Tezpur Da-ParbatiaAnchalarEaitisahikGurutta, written by Kanak Chandra Sarmah, NirbacitoNibandharSankalan, written by BankimSarmah and Bator Nat Mela, written by BhupenSarmah.

MORIGAON: Along with the rest of the country, MorigaonJeebanJeutiKrishakSangha on Thursday remembered music legend Dr. BhupenHazarika on his death anniversary at its office. In presence of the members of the organization, presidentTulsiDeka lit the ceremonial lamp and paid tribute to the music legend.

TANGLA: Along with other parts of State, the 9th death anniversary of Dr. BhupenHazarika was observed at Tangla town in Udalguri district on Thursday. Under the joint aegis of BhupenHazarikaSmritiSurakshaSamiti, Tangla; ShilpiSamaj,Tangla; SanskritikMahasabha, Tangla and National Pioneer Junior College, Tangla, a day-long event was held to observe the day at the premises of National Pioneer Junior College.

The event initiated with lighting of lamps in front of the portrait of the Bard followed by floral tributes by citizens. Noted educationist Prof. Binoy Kumar Medhi spoke on the life and contributions of the Bard and the need to promote his legacy among the upcoming generation. BhupendraSangeet was also performed on the occasion.

DOOMDOOMA: The ninth death anniversary of Bharat Ratna, SudhakanthaBhupenHazarika was observed by DoomdoomaSakhaXahityaXabha (DSXX) in a brief solemn function on Thursday. The programme got underway with lighting of ceremonial lamp in front of the Sudhkantha's portrait by president of DSXX, BimalaBaruah. It was followed by tribute paying initiated by ArjunBaruah, president, TinsukiaZilaXahityaXabha (TZXX). AnamikaLahkar and Ajay Khataniar presented two BhupendraSangeet while JonaliSaikiaDeka and Deben Deka recited two poems. Three teenaged artists DichitaSarmah, DebashisPratimSarma and BhitashmiSarma also rendered BhupendraSangeet. The programme was attended by Surajit Moran, president, AsamJatiyatabadi Yuba-ChatraParishad (AJYCP), Tinsukia district, DhirenDeka, president, Assam Science Writers' Association (ASWA) and other dignitaries.

DEMOW: The Demow Press Club observed the ninth death anniversary of Bharat RatnaDrBhupenHazarika in the office of Demow Press Club on Thursday evening by following COVID protocol. The ceremonial lamp at the portrait of Dr.BhupenHazarika was lit by Ajay Kumar Gogoi, secretary of Demow Press Club. The members of Demow Press Club were present in the programme. On the other hand, the Demow Regional Students' Union also organized a tribute programme on the occasion of the ninth death anniversary of Bharat RatnaDr.BhupenHazarika in front of the office of Demow Regional Students' Union in College Road HariPora Road in Demow on Thursday evening. In the programme, the dignitaries paid tribute to the Bard by lighting earthen lamps in front of the portrait of Dr.BhupenHazarika.
