Dr. Shyamal Dutta expires at 76 in Silchar

SILCHAR: Noted physician Dr. Shyamal Dutta passed away on Monday at a private hospital in Silchar. He was 76. Dr Dutta was associated with Labok Tea Estate for a long time till his death. He left behind a son who is a Bangalore based journalist.

Dr Shyamal Dutta was born at Sylhet in undivided India in 1946. After partition their family shifted to India. Dutta did his MBBS from Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh. Later he joined at a hospital in Dhanbad and finally returned to Barak Valley. He joined Ainakhal TE and subsequently settled in Labok TE in Lakhipur constituency. He dedicated his entire career for the tea garden labourers and was very popular among them. His funeral in Labok was attended by a large number of labourers.
