BOKAKHAT: On the occasion of Lok Kalyan Divas (People’s Welfare Day), the Government of Assam conferred the Karmashree Award on Dr Sonali Ghosh, Field Director of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve, who also serves as the Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, and on Arun Bignesh, Deputy Director of the National Park and officer of the Assam Wildlife Circle, for their commendable efforts in protecting wild animals from road accidents during the floods in Kaziranga.
It is worth mentioning that in the same event, the Deputy Commissioner of Golaghat district, Pulak Mahanta, Superintendent of Police Rajen Singh, and District Transport Officer Montu Kumar Das were also honoured with the Karmashree Award.
Dr Sonali Ghosh had topped the Indian Forest Service (IFS) examination in the 2000–2003 batch. In addition to her postgraduate degree in Forest and Wildlife Sciences, she also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental Law and another diploma in System Management from the National Law School of India University. She earned her doctorate in remote sensing technology, focusing on assessing the suitability of tiger habitats in the Indo-Bhutan Manas Landscape.
Similarly, Indian Forest Service officer Arun Bignesh is an engineer in Electronics and Communication, a birdwatcher, and a distinguished wildlife photographer. The staff and employees of Kaziranga National Park and the forest department extended their warm congratulations and best wishes to both officers on being honoured with the Karmashree Award by the Government of Assam.
