TINSUKIA: Dr. Surjya Chutia of the Department of Economics, Tinsukia College, finally assumed charge as permanent Principal of the same college after a gap of nearly 14 months following administrative and legal hiccups after Dr. Bhuban Gogoi retired on November 30, 2018, amid alleged financial irregularities.

Visibly upset over the state of affairs, Dr. Chutia, while talking to The Sentinel, said the college needed total facelift, both academically and financially, with expenditure being incurred without a proper budget. He would prioritize the issues, primarily being attendance of both students and teachers along with streamlining of classes, he said.

Hailing from Surupotia Gaon under Dhakuakhana's Kakuri panchayat, Dr. Chutia had been a coordinator of KKHOU and recipient of State award in NSS, besides participating in the Republic Day programme as NE Coordinator in 2015. He has published numerous research papers in national and international journals.
