TINSUKIA: As many as 2,360 beneficiaries out of 4,518 hailing from three revenue circles- Tinsukia, Doomdooma and Margherita (Digboi) -under the four LACs of Tinsukia, Digboi, Chabua and Doomdooma, received land pattas and land allotment certificates in a ceremonial programme held at ITI Field Tinsukia on Thursday in presence of two ministers- Rameswar Teli, Union Minister of State for Food Processing Industries, and Sanjay Kishan, Minister of State for Labour and Tea Tribe Welfare.

Beneficiaries under Sadiya LAC and Margherita LAC will receive pattas and allotments on February 2 and February 3 at Sadiya (549 pattas) and Margherita (1100 pattas and 509 allotment certificates) respectively. In the function, 2023 persons received land pattas and 337 beneficiaries received land allotment certificates.

In his welcome address, Bhaskar Pegu, the Deputy Commissioner of Tinsukia who also chaired the function, said that the present exercise in respect of patta matters would be an ongoing process and more eligible persons from landless and indigenous communities would be incorporated in a phased manner.

Sanjay Kishan was very critical about the bandh culture in Tinsukia. In his maiden speech as minister, he called upon all organizations to support developmental process at a time when a lot of schemes were in the pipeline. He said, “Agitation should continue democratically to achieve rights and privileges but not at the cost of development.” He regretted that Tinsukia had lost a conducive environment to invest even as industrialists after initial agreement, decided to roll back the projects. He also cautioned the land beneficiaries not to sell or transfer their land to anybody or to unscrupulous land grabbers, which was a common practice among patta holders. “Land patta is your right, which you must retain it forever,” he appealed to all beneficiaries, adding further that he would attempt to make budgetary allocation for a model college at Doomdooma. Echoing the same voice, minister Teli said that small tea growers would also get land pattas as per norms soon. Dileswar Tanti, former minister of Doomdooma, Durga Bhumijm Doomdooma MLA, and other dignitaries attended the programme.
