GUWAHATI: At a time when people have been stunned by the fatal COVID-19 infections, a woman employee has been allegedly, regularly discharging her duty in a drunken state.

Pronab Kalita, who is entrusted to look after the works of the Health Department in his constituency by Kamalpur MLA Diganta Kalita caught the drunk employee while she was on her duty.

The woman employee is a laboratory technician and working in the Mahatma Gandhi Modal Hospital, Kamalpur.

She always discharges duty after drinking liquor, alleged some local people.

However, the hospital administration is yet to take a step against her despite the fact that the deputy superintendent admitted that he was aware of her misconduct.

Earlier in Guwahati, an allegedly drunken woman who came in an autorickshaw and tried to forcefully drive the autorickshaw into the 'foot zone' area in front of Latasil Field Durga Puja has been arrested. The incident took place at around 1 AM.

The woman picked up a quarrel with the traffic police personnel in the area and alleged physically manhandled a woman cop in her attempt to drive into the 'foot zone'. The woman also allegedly pulled at the uniform of woman constable Gayatri Hazarika of Latasil PS while speaking in slang language.

The woman identified as Jonmoni Kashyap (22) and wife of Jagadish Baishya of Bormaroi police station area in Kamalpur in Kamrup district has been arrested and a case (case no.240/18 u/s 294/353/506 IPC) has been registered in accordance with an FIR lodged at Latasil PS. Meanwhile, the accused has been remanded to judicial custody.
