Dry Day declared in Chirang district on polling and counting days

KOKRAJHAR, BONGAIGAON: In view of maintaining peace and tranquility in connection with the general election to the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), the District Magistrate, Chirang, Gautam Talukdar has declared dry day throughout the district from 4.30 PM of December 8 to 4.30 PM of December 10 and on December 12, 2020, on the day of counting, till the counting process is over. In the order, it was stated that during the dry days, possession of any intoxicant by any person or group is prohibited and all IMFL OFF and ON shops, including club ON, hotel ON, country spirit retail vend license premises and MCT, would remain closed and would not be allowed to sell liquor to anyone on those days throughout the Chirang district. "Any violation of this order would be dealt with under the relevant provisions of Assam Excise Act and Rules," the order further said.
