GOLAGHAT: The Deputy Commissioner of Golaghat issued an order declaring Dry Day along the Assam-Nagaland border area of Golaghat district in view of the forthcoming General Election the Legislative Assembly of Nagaland.

In an order vide no. GEX. 24/2007-2008/523 dated February 21, it was stated in view of the forthcoming General Election to the legislative assembly of Nagaland, 2023, the Governor of Assam prohibits the possession of any intoxicants by any person or group of persons and total ban on sale of liquor, giving or distribution of spirituous, fermented or intoxicating liquors or other substances of alike nature at a hotel, eating house, tavern, shop or any other place, public or private within the adjoining / bordering areas with Nagaland during the period of 48 hours ending with the hour fixed for the conclusion of poll of 27.02.2023. The day of counting of votes on 02.03.2023 is also declared as Dry Day till the process of counting is over.

During the Dry Days, all Country Spirit Wholesale Warehouses, IMFL retail OFF/ ON and Country shops of Sarupathar and Furkating Excise Circle will remain closed. Any violation of this order shall be dealt with under the relevant provision of Assam Excise Act and Rules 2016 & under the provision of Section 135C of the representation of the people Act 1951 of Election Rules.
