LAKHIMPUR: Keeping in mind the Deori Autonomous Council (DAC) Election - 2022 to the 7 DAC constituencies of Lakhimpur district on November 8, the Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur has declared 'Dry Days' in the poll-bound areas under the district in pursuance of the order issued by the Governor of Assam and under Rule 326 (A) of Assam Excise Rules, 2016, under Section 135 C of the Representation of the People Act'1951 of Election Rules.

The order has prohibited the possession of any intoxicants by any persons or group of persons and total ban on sale of liquor, giving or distribution of spirituous, fermented or intoxicating liquor or other substances of alike nature at a hotel, public eating house, tavern, shop or any other place, public or private during the period of 48 hours ending with the hours fixed for the conclusion of polling, that is from 4.00 pm of November 6 to 4.00 pm of November 8. The day fixed for counting of votes, that is November 10, is also declared as Dry Day till the process of counting is over.

Further the day of re-poll, if any, that is on November 9 is also declared as Dry Day. All the bonded warehouses, IMFL retail 'OFF'/ ON' shops including the Club 'ON', "Hotel ON' and the country spirit retail shops in the election areas will remain closed during the Dry Days. Storage of liquor during the period of Dry Days is also curtailed for any individuals. Further, any storage of liquor in any unlicensed premises will be vigorously enforced as per the restriction provided in the Excise Law during Dry Days. Steps will also be taken to prohibit sale of liquor in adjoining areas of the concerned constituencies, so that there are no chances of clandestine movement of liquor from those areas where the restriction has not been in operation. Any violation of the order will be dealt with under the relevant provisions of Assam Excise Act and Rules and under provision of Section 135 (C) of Election Rules to respective constituencies.

The DAC constituencies comprising the areas of Lakhimpur district falling under the purview of Dry Days are Narayanpur Centre and its adjoining areas, Bihpuria Centre and its adjoining areas, Harmutty, Dolohat, Naoboicha and their adjoining areas.
