Silchar: Saffron brigade got a big jolt once again in Silchar Bar Library election as the CPM leader Dulal Mitra maintained his successful run for the consecutive second term for the president post while Niladri Roy, a Congressman won the general secretary post. Mitra, a veteran advocate as well as the former Cachar Hailakandi secretary of the CPIM defeated Sumita Shome Podder, known for her proximity with the saffron brigade by 47 votes. Roy, on the other hand, defeated Amalabha Das, a saffron leaning advocate by 18 votes to retain the general secretary post for the second times. Pankaj Kanti Dey defeated the BJP backed Subhashis Chakrabarty for the post of vice president. However in other 9 seats the BJP-backed candidates won in six posts. For the first time, the Silchar Bar Library began to maintain a female seat for every post. Tuhina Sharma, a Congress member won the president (female), Abhijit Kar for joint secretary and Ramesh Singh for assistant general secretary (sports) posts uncontested. Out of the total 777 electors, 605 advocates cast their votes.
