Durga Puja not to be Celebrated like Previous Years in Jorhat & Majuli

JORHAT: 219 pandals celebrating Durga Puja within the district of Jorhat online shoppers dampening shopping rush as on the other hand Majuli island district is not going to celebrate Durga Puja festival as the island district usually celebrates ni idol which is the nerve center of vaishnavite cult and hectic preparation is going on to celebrate 575th birth anniversary of Sri Sankardeva throughout the island district among xattras and namghars. Preparation for the Raax festival is also underway from the second week of October, informed administrative sources here.

Moreover, hectic preparation, along with installation of police control platform, CCTV cameras, are on; there will be competitions like drawing, quiz, debates within the Jorhat district as the four-day Durga Puja is going to be kicked off from Saturday and for the past three days APDCL, Disaster Management Authority, PWD, Police, Jorhat Municipality Board were seen inspecting and pressing sniffer dogs within the town and city and also in busy areas of ISBT, Railway Station in Mariani, Jorhat, Titabor; the scrutiny of clearance certificate from the central puja committee has almost been completed, said the secretary of the committee Dilip Nandi.

To look from the security side Jorhat SP Vaibhav Nimbalkar informed that Jorhat Police is already with extra companies of forces apart from its existing ones adding that special Rider Squad, Normal Rider Squad, VDP, wearing special dress will be visible in dark mentioning Police will be pressed at 11 am. Till late night the security will be kept ready to reach on time. While a total of six control rooms and over 200 CCTV cameras have been installed both officially and individually at heavy traffic points and puja venues. On the other hand night curfew has already been clamped along with section 144 on the Assam-Nagaland border. River patrolling between Sivasagar, Jorhat and Majuli district on the Brahmaputra is being carried out, the SP said.
