LAKHIMPUR: With the clean, cool and sacred environment of the autumnal festivities, after the end of the scorching heat and torrential rains of the summer and monsoon seasons, the devotees of Lakhimpur are all set to celebrate the Durga Puja from Friday. Meanwhile, the people of Lakhimpur have plunged into a festive mood on the auspicious occasion of the ‘Akal Bodhan’ of the deity.
This year the celebration of the Durga Puja has organized over 110 venues across Lakhimpur district. Out of them, the deity will be worshipped at more than a hundred venues under North Lakhimpur subdivision while the same will be done at almost 10 venues in Dhakuakhana subdivision. All arrangements were already completed to propitiate the mother goddess with ancient tradition at Shree Shree Panchanan Dewalaya, located at the mid-floor of North Lakhimpur town, Shree Neel Dewalaya, located at Gharmora Deori Gaon, Shree Shree Baithawoti Than located at Garehaga and Shree Shree Aai Padumoni Than, located at Boginadi in North Lakhimpur subdivision.
Notably, the devotees have worshipped the deity in front of the permanent idols at these ‘Devi Peeths’, believed to be ‘ever awakening’, with ancient traditions without sponsoring any modern gimmick and formalities. The deity will be worshipped in front of the permanent idol at North Lakhimpur Durga Mandir too. Similarly, this year the 297th Durga Puja is celebrated with ancient tradition at Shree Shree Iswari Harrhi Dewalaya under Dhakuakhana subdivision of the district. This Dewalaya was set up by Ahom king Swargadeo Gaurinath Singha in 1722, bringing a part of Kechaikhati Tamreswari Mandir of Sadia (known as Kundil by ancient name) and five families of a special community of the place. Since then, the Durga Puja has been celebrated in the Dewalaya, making various animals sacrifices. Durga Puja will be celebrated with traditional fervor at historic Shree Shree Ma Manipuri Aai Than along with four other venues at Ghilamora under the subdivision.
The puja celebration committees of North Lakhimpur municipal area along with Laluk, Nowboicha, Bihpuriya, Narayanpur, Boginadi, Harmutty, Panigaon already completed their arrangements to celebrate the occasion. Meanwhile, the devotees of mother goddess started worshiping the deity with deep devotion installing her at the altar on Friday evening on the occasion of the Maha Sasthi tithi as per tradition.
