‘Economic Freedom not possible without Cooperation of Women’: Mahila Marcha

LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur District Mahila Marcha of Voters’ Party International (VPI) was constituted on Wednesday. On this occasion, a public meeting was organized at the District Pensioners’ Bhavan premises in North Lakhimpur town in the presence of delegates coming from eight Block Committees under the Lakhimpur district VPI unit. The meeting was held with Lakhimpur district VPI president Fajlur Rahman in the chair while State member Abu Sama was present as the chief guest. He explained the objective and importance of the meeting. He stated that the role of women was important to achieve the goal of any movement. “Economic freedom is not possible without the co-operation of women communities,” he added.

State member of Mahila Marcha, Junmoni Basumatari also addressed the public meeting expressing her resentment at the non-release of voter ship amount of Rs 6,000 by the successive governments of India despite it being approved by the Parliamentary Committee in 2005. She appealed to the women communities to achieve the right of economic freedom from the government by following the path of agitation. In the same meeting, the 12-member Lakhimpur District Mahila Marcha of the VPI was constituted with Taruni Bhorali as president and Ruby Begum as secretary.
