JORHAT: An elderly woman was allegedly killed by unidentified miscreants at her Malao Ali residence near Dipankar Vidyapeet School under Jorhat Sadar Police Station. She was identified as Kiran Baruah (75), a retired PWD official. She was unmarried and was alone in her house on Friday night, said police.

A group of miscreants entered the house and slashed her neck. They thought she had died and left the house. On Saturday morning her nephews came to visit her and found her in a critical condition. She was rushed to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital where after battling for life for over nine hours, she died at around 7 pm, informed police sources. This is the second murder in Jorhat town in just a couple of days. On September 18, Ashish Bora was allegedly murdered at Teliyapatti. This has become a matter of concern, said Hridoy Bora, the ward commissioner of Ward No. 9 of the Jorhat Municipality Board.
